The natural bay that constitutes the port of Aegiali is situated in the north part of the island of Amorgos (in the antiquity also known as "Pangali", "Psychia" or "Κarkisia") in the south-east of Cyclades.

The renowned beach of Aegiali
The island's north-east side, Aegiali, was a colony of the Asia Minor city of Militos and nowadays includes 4 villages, Ormos, Potamos, Langada and Tholaria. Despite its mountainous landscape, Aegiali comprises a large plain of olive groves that leads to the longest sandy beach of the island.

The Monastery of Panagia HozoviotissaThe great prominence of Amorgos is due to the renowned Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa in the eastern part of the island. Built in a cliff and in great height above the sea, the Monastery offers an exceptional view. Visitors from all over the world enjoy the hospitality of the monks and the unique interior architecture of the cloister.

The permanent inhabitants of Amorgos are no more than two thousand during the winter months. The island's main financial income derives from fishing, tourism and agriculture (production of olive oil and wine).
